I create wedding favours for a living but didn’t have any favours for our wedding guests. Here’s why...
8 August 2025, is our ten-year anniversary.
8.8 was the day we signed our marriage papers.
However, our wedding reception DID NOT happen until more than two years later, and this is the story.......
In 2015, we were moving countries. Our love story began as a long-distance relationship. We got married two to three years after he had just moved to Hong Kong from Australia, and we didn’t have enough savings to host a wedding or even hire a photographer.
This photo was taken on 8.8.2015 in a metro photo booth right after we signed the papers and officially became husband and wife. It cost almost nothing, but it meant everything.
Over the next two years, I moved to Melbourne and we started saving for a wedding celebration that we, our family, and our friends deserved. We wanted everything we had dreamed of and more.
I took my time to paint and design our wedding invitations, and I started learning calligraphy because I loved the idea of having our wedding details personalised. I ended up creating all our place cards, menus, invitations, and seating chart. Eventually, we saved enough to book our dream venue, our dream photographer, and a dream team of vendors.
Our dream ceremony and reception finally happened after more than two years of waiting. It was worth every moment, and it truly was the best day of our lives.
When I was planning our wedding, I searched everywhere for a wedding favour that was practical, beautiful, and would not go to waste. I spent months looking and could not find anything that felt right. In the end, we DID NOT give our guests any favours at all....but we gave them a VERY GOOD time.
It got me thinking… there must be a better way.
How That Led Me to Live Wedding Illustration
Fast forward to today, and I am now able to be that person who adds a personal touch to weddings by illustrating live for couples and their guests. A wedding favour that will never be left behind on a table.
It is more than a gift. It is a moment. Your guests see the artwork being created in real time, and they take home something made especially for them, right there on the happiest day of your life.
I am so grateful that this is my job and that I get to work as a live wedding illustrator. It is a very special kind of entertainment and a gift that I genuinely believe in.
If you are wondering whether it is a good idea, I can tell you from the heart - it absolutely is. I would totally do it if I host my wedding today.
The Most Memorable Wedding Favour
A live wedding illustration becomes part of the day itself. Guests watch the artwork take shape, and then they get to take a piece of the celebration home.
For me, it is about capturing a moment that will never happen in exactly the same way again. Just like that photo booth strip from our actual wedding day, it holds the feeling of the moment, us and the joy.
