The Live Event Artist Who Does It All - Live Art Ideas for Brand Activations: Illustration, Engraving, Calligraphy & Interactive Art Experiences
The Live Event Artist Who Does It All
One of the things clients often say after we've worked together is:
"I didn't realise we could combine all of these ideas in one event" "I didn't know you also do other form of art!"
It's one of my favourite things to hear. Because I work across multiple art forms — illustration, painting, bottle painting, engraving, Western calligraphy and Chinese calligraphy — there's often more we can do together than clients initially expect. Many brands enjoy weaving several elements into one cohesive activation, or choose to work with me across different events throughout the year, each with its own creative focus.
For larger events or high-traffic activations, I also work with a carefully selected team of illustrators, engravers and calligraphers — so multiple guest stations can run at once, smoothly and beautifully.
This means the experience can scale without losing the quality and care that makes it special.
And if you have something new in mind, I'm always open to exploring fresh activation ideas that suit your event concept.
Some newer offerings I've been bringing to events include wood-burning personalisation, gold-foil personalisation on leather surfaces, and soft clay magnet workshops — all of which have been really well received.
Brand events have changed a lot in recent years.
It's no longer just about showcasing a product — it's about creating a moment people actually remember.
Guests want to watch something being made in front of them, be part of something that feels personal, and leave with a keepsake that carries the memory of that experience with them.
It's why live art experiences have become such a natural fit for luxury brand activations, retail events and VIP launches.
I'm based in Melbourne and have had the privilege of working with over 30 international brands — among them Dior, Montblanc, Prada, Chaumet, YSL, Balenciaga, Jo Malone London and Guerlain.
Many clients first reach out about live fashion illustration, and from there the conversation often opens up into something more layered and creative.
Because live art really can take so many forms.
More Than Just Live Illustration
Live fashion illustration is often where things begin.
Guests are sketched in real time in an elegant, considered style — their outfit, their personality, captured in a piece of artwork they get to take home.
Some of the events I've created live illustrations for include:
• Montblanc boutique openings and VIP events — Line Art Style using Montblanc Fountain pen
• Balenciaga private client events — Line Art Style
• Bendigo Art Gallery exhibition openings — Fashion Illustration Style
• Chadstone Christmas activations — Portrait style
• Qantas Business Lounge holiday events — Line Art Style
There's something naturally magnetic about watching a sketch come to life. Guests tend to gather, stay longer than they planned, and the illustration table quietly becomes one of the highlights of the evening.
Live Illustration & Calligraphy Experiences for Guests
Personalisation is at the heart of what makes a live art experience feel truly special.
Live illustration gives each guest something made just for them, in that moment. And adding their name in beautiful calligraphy takes it one step further — turning artwork into something that feels genuinely their own.
At Prada's holiday gifting experience, for example, I created hand-drawn illustrations directly onto luxury gift boxes for VIP clients — and added names written in calligraphy on the box or shopping bag.
At Jo Malone London events, I've painted delicate botanical illustrations onto fragrance bottles — and for guests who wanted something extra personal, their names written in calligraphy on the back.
These moments feel meaningful because each piece is created specifically for that person.
A beautiful product becomes something even more intimate.
Live Engraving for Luxury Products
Live engraving is another activation guests consistently love.
It offers a way to permanently personalise a product — with initials, a name, or a small illustration etched directly onto the surface.
It works beautifully for:
• fragrance bottles
• metal accessories
• jewellery
• glassware
Fragrance brands especially love pairing live illustration or bottle painting with engraving — it creates a layered, multi-sensory experience for guests.
One guest might receive a sketched portrait on their gift box, while another has their initials engraved into the bottle itself. The variety keeps things lively and gives each person something uniquely theirs.
Western Calligraphy and Chinese Calligraphy
Calligraphy brings its own quiet elegance to a live event.
Western calligraphy is a natural fit for name writing, gift tags, packaging and stationery — anything that deserves a beautiful, considered hand.
And sometimes a guest will ask a question that opens a whole new door.
"Do you also write Chinese calligraphy?"
As it happens — yes.
I practice both Western and traditional Chinese calligraphy, and can write in brush pen, pointed pen or fountain pen depending on the look and feel you're after.
At Lunar New Year events especially, guests love requesting meaningful Chinese characters — prosperity, happiness, good fortune — and watching the brushwork happen in front of them adds something really special to the atmosphere.
Interactive Workshops and Creative Activities
Not every activation has to be something guests watch.
Sometimes the most memorable experiences are the ones where guests get to make something themselves.
Some workshops I've hosted in previous collaborations include:
• Watercolour handbag sketching workshops for Tory Burch
• Soft clay magnet workshops, where guests created their own personalised keepsakes
• Live drawing demonstrations where VIP clients could follow along and create alongside me
These formats shift the energy of the event — guests become participants, not just observers, and they leave with something they made with their own hands.
For corporate events, I can also help design interactive art stations where guests move between different creative experiences across the evening.
Let's Design Something Together
The projects I love most often start with a simple question or a half-formed idea.
A brand might come to me asking about one element — and together we start to explore what else is possible.
Could we personalise the products? Could guests make something themselves? Could we weave in calligraphy or engraving? Could there be a small interactive installation at the heart of it?
Every event is different, and I genuinely enjoy the process of figuring out what will work best for yours.
