10 Unique Brand Activation Ideas That Create Unforgettable Guest Experiences

In today’s world, we are surrounded by technology and AI more than ever before. So many things are instant, automated and generated on a screen.

Because of this, people are starting to value something different...moments that feel human, personal, and real.

For brands, this means creating moments that guests remember long after the event is over. Something personal and interactive.

Over the years working as a live event illustrator and calligrapher, I’ve collaborated with many beautiful brands including Prada, Montblanc, Dior, Porsche and YSL. One thing I’ve noticed is that the most successful brand activations often include something guests can watch, participate in, and take home.

Here are ten creative ideas that bring an extra layer of magic to events.

1. Live Fashion Illustration

Live fashion illustration is one of the most engaging experiences you can offer guests.

As they arrive at the event, I sketch their outfits in a quick, elegant style. Capturing their posture, personality, and fashion details.

For example, during the opening night of the Paris: Impressions of Life 1880–1925 exhibition at Bendigo Art Gallery, I created live fashion illustrations of guests throughout the evening. Watching the sketches come to life became part of the atmosphere of the event.

Guests love seeing themselves interpreted through an artist’s eyes, and they leave with a beautiful keepsake.

2. Live Calligraphy Personalisation

Personalisation is one of the most powerful ways to connect with an audience.

At many luxury brand events, I offer live calligraphy where guests can have their names or meaningful messages hand-lettered on items such as gift boxes, paper cards, or special keepsakes.

For example, at Montblanc’s Valentine's Day activation, I created personalised calligraphy using their signature fountain pens, turning each piece into a meaningful memento for guests.

Watching calligraphy happen in real time adds a sense of craft and authenticity that machines simply can’t replicate.

3. On-site Engraving Experiences

Live engraving brings an element of luxury and precision to an event.

Using portable engraving tools, I personalise products with names, initials, or small illustrations directly onto surfaces such as fragrance bottles, jewellery, or cosmetics.

One example was the YSL x Mecca pop-up activation, where I engraved personalised designs on lipsticks for guests. Each piece became a one-of-a-kind art created right at the event.

Guests are always fascinated by the process — and they love taking home something uniquely theirs.

4. Interactive Art Workshops

Some events benefit from slowing the pace slightly and inviting guests to participate creatively.

Workshops can be a wonderful way for guests to engage more deeply with the brand experience.

For example, during the launch of the Tory Burch T Monogram Denim collection, I hosted a small creative workshop where guests learned to paint Tory Burch designer bags using watercolour techniques.

It created a relaxed, social environment where guests could enjoy the creative process together.

5. Cultural Art Experiences

Cultural traditions can add a beautiful and meaningful layer to brand events.

During Lunar New Year celebrations, I often bring traditional Chinese calligraphy tools - brush, ink, and rice paper,  to create blessings and auspicious characters for guests.

This year I collaborated with brands such as Fendi and Porsche to celebrate the Lunar New Year, bringing the elegance of Chinese calligraphy into modern luxury retail spaces.

These moments allow guests to experience a centuries-old tradition in a contemporary setting.

6. Bespoke Live Painting

Another beautiful activation is creating a live painting during the event.

At a private Chaumet Christmas event, I created bespoke paintings throughout the few days activation, allowing guests to watch the artwork evolve in real time.

By the end of the night, the brand had a one-of-a-kind artwork that captured the atmosphere of the event.

7. Illustrated Brand Giftboxes

Instead of traditional event gifts, illustrated giftboxes offer something more personal.

During Dior’s holiday gifting experience, I created hand-drawn illustrations on luxury gift boxes for VIP clients. Each box became both packaging and artwork.

These small artistic touches often become one of the most memorable parts of the event.

8. Artistic Product Customisation

Live artistic customisation transforms everyday products into unique objects.

At Jo Malone London’s brand activation event, I illustrated bespoke designs on their perfume bottles for customer.

It’s a simple but powerful experience, watching something beautiful being created right in front of you and the customer gets to use the personalised product everyday to remember the special experience they had during the activation

9. High-Volume Guest Illustration Experiences

For large-scale events, live illustration can still work beautifully with the right setup.

During a Qantas Business Lounge Christmas event, I created live portraits in quick and stylish line art style for hundreds of passengers over a 10-day activation.

Even in busy environments, guests love the quiet moment of sitting down and being sketched.

If you have a lot of guests (i.e. 300+ or 500+ guests event) Candy also lead a selected team of talented illustrators and we can bring your vision to life

10. Art That Captures Fleeting Moments

At the heart of every great event is a moment that disappears too quickly.

Live art captures those fleeting moments, the fashion, the atmosphere, the energy of the room... and transforms them into something lasting.

That watercolour drawing, engraving or personalised gift becomes a memory guests take home with them.

Creating Experiences Guests Remember

Beautiful events are not only about the food or decor.
They are about the moments people feel something.

Whether it’s watching a portrait appear on paper, seeing their name written in elegant calligraphy, or participating in a creative workshop, these experiences create connection.

And in many ways, that is what good art has always done. It slows people down for a moment and reminds them to notice the beauty around them.
